The DBP explanation of our project

Since it is already public we thought we should re post it here. It might clear up a lot of misconceptions about the game. so here we go

About Project Temporality

Project Temporality (PT) is a game looking at the genre Portal pioneered, an action oriented puzzle game. But with our own unique twist. We have based our entire gameplay around time manipulation and used it in conjunction with traditional platform elements to create a new compelling experience.

The basis of PT is its timeline concept which basically means that you aren’t limited to one existence or one sequence of actions. You have the capability to create new copies of yourself (at any given point in time) and while control is transferred to the new copy the other copies keep doing what they did earlier at that time.

Of course due to time paradoxes if you skip backward beyond the starting point of a timeline and then start another one. It will replace the other timeline. This is combined with traditional button controllable platforms and doors to keep the player from just relaying on the time part.

To keep him on his feet we have also added the concept of time points. Time manipulations are not free. You have a limited amount of points to spend so you will have to look for the most efficient way to solve a puzzle or you will run out of them.

After first playing through our story driven single player mode the player will be able to go online and speed run through the level to compete with his friends.

Since reading journals or listening to messages doesn’t take any time the player could speed run already on his initial mode. But it is easier to use the dedicated speed running mode which does away with all those text popups and allows you to focus on running.

This works out due to the fact that you can also use time points to accelerate yourself, meaning finding the perfect timing or the most efficient puzzle solution allows you to move through the level quicker.

All this goes together with the basic thought that instead of being another nameless protagonist you are yourself. You are the hero. This is evidently visible by the fact that you play as your own Avatar.

Our DBP trailer is officially 1337

All right so some of here are big nerds and we couldn’t help noticing that the original version of our dream build play trailer just made 1337 views, or a leet number of views if you want to think of it that way. You can also notice that if you have a digital clock it is also l337 one minute every day :)

Of course the new trailer has already dwarfed the DBP trailer which is nice because it does look a bit embarrassing with today’s standards.

We will make a couple of new updates soon.

Temporality Arc March 21, 2057- Project Temporality executive advises personnel to behave.

When Project Temporality recently arrived at its posting outside Neptune and the Kuiper belt, the management announced to the personnel that the true purpose of the project was not in fact astronomical studies, but daring spacetime-warping experiments. The protests that have arisen since have now brought the project executive, Admiral Melville, to come forward and advice everyone to behave:

“You are all among the top performers of the entire human race in your respective fields, and we should expect your qualifications to include flexibility, bravery and loyalty. The secrecy of this mission has provided security for us all, and now that it has been lifted, you should be proud to serve a cause not only more vital and more honorable than the one you signed up for, but also more so than anything anyone has done before. So hang in there, troopers! It’s not like you can do anything else out here anyway.”

In an attempt to soothe the public, Defrost Games, the producer behind Project Temporality, states that the project’s placement outside the planetary system, and its fictitious nature, most probably will protect Earth from harm in case anything goes horribly wrong. They also add, somewhat curiously, that “any problem can be solved by a hero designed in your own image”.

Project Temporality is a time manipulation based third person action game best described as “It’s Portal meets Braid on crack, with avatars.”. It was recently submitted to Microsoft’s prestigious Dream.Build.Play. competition. Where it has been selected as one of the 20 Semi Finalists.

Work in progress and Screenshots

We are still slaving away here for the official launch of this web page.  The new Global Illumination solution was integrated into the code base over the last week and we have gone back and re lighted all the levels for a third time now. So we are finally getting really close to actually announcing. It kinda hurts that we weren’t ready in time for the Dream Build Play Announcement but all good things takes time right.  I spend yesterday night and today taking and sorting out the new screenshots for the webpage and the Press kit.

After this we will make progress on our first real trailer and some extra material and then we will be ready. But until then I can give you this picture of one of the screens that didn’t make the cut so you can see our progress. We think we are getting close to finishing up all the base tech and are bringing in artists to make everything look beautiful.
